Nelly is ready for Adoption!
As a Thoroughbred, having a job is important to her.
She is waiting for her next partner!
Feature 3
Nelly came to us in 2018. Nelly was dealing with a swollen left hind leg. Nelly’s confidence suffered due to the injury and she needed help to strengthen her legs. Mike worked on her leg using his therapies to help her recover. On April 5, 2020, she was strong enough and we moved her to Driftwood Farms in McHenry, which allowed volunteer, Ruthanne, to dedicate her time to help Nelly heal and rebuild her confidence.
Nelly will make a great horse for anyone who loves spending time just being with their horse. She loves the time spent on the ground and is ready for short rides. Nelly has carried people of all ages, including young children, for lessons, trail rides and show events.

Feature 1
The first couple of months were slow and easy, as we wanted her to acclimate to her new surrounds, horse friends, and routine. Ground work is essential in helping a horse acclimate to new surroundings and learn to communicate with their handler. Ground work included figure eights to get her rib cage moving and continued massage of her injured leg.
In order to get her ready for a rider, Ruthanne worked with her to start extending her stride a bit, so part of our ground work started to include a bit of shoulder in, which helped her to loosen up her shoulder. Nelly wasn’t sure what was being asked of her, but she is a very fast learner, and after the first couple of tries she had it down. Once she knew what was being asked of her on the ground, the shoulder riding was incorporated during the riding session. Nelly is a fast learner!

After a leg injury and rehab, Nelly has extended her stride a bit at the walk, and was introduced to a trot. The best part is Nelly s coming into herself. Nelly has started showing HER opinion on things, but always remains open to other opinions as well! She also has the sparkle back in her eyes and enjoys being a bit mischievous!
