Centerpoint Cavvy Thoroughbred Rescue is the idea of Mike Buskohl and Monika Sukowski.

A place for Thoroughbreds to find a home after their owners can no longer care for them, Centerpoint Cavvy Thoroughbred Rescue will be a place for rehab, healing, adoption, and more.

Mike's story...

Dr. Michael Buskohl is a certified AVCA Chiropractor, Co-founder of the Centaur program, and past president of the Blackhawk Valley Riding for the Handicapped. He currently owns nine horses and lives on a farm along the Illinois-Wisconsin border area. He has clients throughout the United States.

Mike is a deeply passionate horseman and dedicated to nurturing the mind, spirit, and body mechanics of his equine patients. At a meeting with volunteers for the Centerpoint Cavvy Thoroughbred Rescue, Mike stated that so many Thoroughbred Horses and their potential just get thrown away.  These horses may be abused, neglected or shipped to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. Mike’s passion is to “think like a horse.” Because Mike studies this subject with such dedication, he has made many discoveries that will change the way we see horses and the way we ride. He reminds us that horses were not meant to transport humans, but the relationship between horse and human can be developed and nurtured to form a bond like no other.

Mike, by profession, is an equine therapist to some of the world’s top show horses and works with riders to understand how the body of a horse works.  He is a graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic and moved from human patients to equine patients.

Mike has developed a passion for the Thoroughbred horse and has decided to dedicate part of his life and his farm to the rescue of these majestic animals as they retire from the race track either due to age or injury.  His philosophy is that every horse deserves a second chance – to repurpose their lives and live with dignity.

Monika's Story

After losing her horse in the Spring of 2016, Monika Sukowski began a new journey.  As Mike had cared for her horse in his last days, Monika began taking the hour and a half ride several times a week to visit the horses on Mike's Farm.  Learning a new way of handling horses, mucking stalls, and training a donkey to pull a cart, Monika realized that her love of horses was far beyond just the love she had for her horse Stormy.

Together, Mike and Monika began to talk about the idea of opening a horse rescue for Thoroughbreds.  And so their journey begins...the love of this magnificent animal touches the hearts of many, but sometimes, these beautiful creatures are abandoned.  Centerpoint Cavvy Thoroughbred Rescue will give a home to those horses in need, and the love that Monika shared with her horse Stormy will live on in her work at the rescue farm.
